Sponsored by the Queensland Government and hosted at the Brisbane Convention & Exhibition Centre, the inaugural World of Drones Congress 2017 will bring together businesses, governments, investors and drone enthusiasts from around the globe to celebrate the drone revolution.
The World of Drones Congress 2017, in collaboration with Trade and Investment Queensland and the Department of Natural Resources and Mines, is pleased to announce the Advance Queensland drone competition.
Open to all drone enthusiasts, the competition encourages the use of drones in innovative ways to demonstrate Queensland’s current and emerging opportunities for investment.
Submit your best drone footage from across Queensland that aligns with the following trade and investment themes:

  • Resources (including mining, agriculture and agribusiness, and water management)

  • Tourism and recreation

  • Health, social and emergency services

  • Education and training

  • Renewable energy and urban development

  • Service and product delivery 


Contestants for the most outstanding footage, and the most novel, unique and innovative application of drone technology, will be in the running for great prizes, including free registration to the World of Drones Congress!
As well as being shown at the Congress, the winners will see their footage included in an exclusive World of Drones layer in the Queensland Globe (https://qldglobe.information.qld.gov.au).
Entries close on Sunday 20 August.


Participants are required to:

  • Upload a short (1-2 minutes) video to a cloud-based solution (e.g. Dropbox, Google Drive, OneDrive) or any other file host, or their own personal site, so that we can download it easily;

  • Ensure that this footage adheres to Vimeo Compression Guidelines (https://vimeo.com/help/compression) to ensure highest quality;

  • Email a link to the file to opendata@dnrm.qld.gov.au with the subject heading “World of Drones Congress 2017 Advance Queensland competition entry”;

  • Provide a text description of the footage, any pertinent technical information, and the location (address or GPS coordinates) that the footage was acquired;

  • Ensure that you include your contact details.

Criteria for submission:

  • Drone footage no longer than 2 minutes;

  • Drone footage captured in Queensland;

  • Drone footage captured in the spirit of the competition, with the intent to positively highlight one of the six Queensland trade and investment themes;

  • Drone footage uploaded under a Creative Commons Attribution + ShareAlike license with the understanding that it may be used by the Queensland Government to promote the Advance Queensland initiative;

  • You give permission for your footage to be linked directly from the Queensland Globe (https://qldglobe.information.qld.gov.au) under the CC BY-SA license.

We would like to invite ALL schools in Queensland to join in this year's...

If you could design a drone to do anything; what would you design?

·        How would the drone look?

·        Does it fly, crawl, swim, run, or bounce?

·        What material is it made of?

·        What is the problem that your drone would solve?

Participant(s) are required to:

·        Upload a short fifty-five (55) second pitch video;

·        submit a description of their drone and the problems it solves; and

·        submit their conceptual designs.


We also welcome the participant(s) to send in any 3D printed or constructed mock-ups of their design, please note this is not compulsory to the competition. 

There is a non-refundable entry fee of AUD 20.
